Exciting new designs have emerged for a striking two-tower residential complex at 466 Main Street in New Rochelle, New York, and this is just the beginning of an ambitious project that has the potential to reshape the area! Designed by the innovative Hill West Architects and developed by Cuddy & Feder, these impressive 28-story buildings will encompass a vast total of 929,415 square feet and will provide a substantial 805 rental units for residents. But here's where it gets interesting: the development will also feature ground-level retail spaces, a parking garage capable of accommodating 711 vehicles through a valet service, and an expansive 25,000 square feet dedicated to indoor and outdoor amenities.
Situated on a full city block bordered by Main Street (also known as Route 1), North Avenue, Clinton Place, and Locust Avenue, the project promises to be a vibrant addition to the community.
The street-level rendering offers a look eastward from the bustling intersection of Main Street and North Avenue, showcasing how the buildings are ingeniously linked by a multistory podium designed to house both retail areas and the parking facility. The towers themselves are poised to make a statement with their unique multifaceted architectural forms, which gracefully ascend with stylish bulkheads. The exterior facade is envisioned with floor-to-ceiling glass windows framed by elegant bronze-hued panels, while the central sections of each tower will boast generous stretches of glass complemented by a staggered grid of mullions arranged in three-story increments.
Additional renderings provide a glimpse of the extensive elevation along North Avenue, followed by an aerial view revealing the southern tower's cutout above the podium, which will include a refreshing outdoor swimming pool—definitely a highlight for future residents!
Currently, the site is home to a modest two-story commercial building, as depicted in a Google Street View image that echoes the perspective of the main renderings. A surface parking lot occupies the southern section of the property, ready for transformation.
In the northern part of the lot, Building 1 will host 489 units, while Building 2 to the south will offer 316 apartments. This diverse housing mix will cater to various needs, featuring 257 studios, 377 one-bedroom apartments, 156 two-bedroom homes, and 15 spacious three-bedroom units.
A top-down layout illustrates Building 1 extending east toward Locust Avenue, complete with a three-story panhandle topped by an amenity deck that will house another outdoor swimming pool, enhancing the lifestyle offerings for residents at this new development.
Having received site plan approval from the New Rochelle Planning Board in October, this project is making strides forward. Conveniently located just a short walk to the east of the New Rochelle station on the Metro-North Railroad, it promises improved transit access with direct connections to Penn Station expected to commence in 2027.
However, a construction timeline for the 466 Main Street project has yet to be disclosed, leaving many eager to see when this vision will come to life.
